Charles Read Oakleaf, Sr., 99, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, formerly of Mound Valley, Kansas, died at 12:05 a.m., Sunday, February 17, 2013, at his home.
He was born November 8, 1913, at Mound Valley, Kansas, to Orton and Helena (Read) Oakleaf.
During World War II, Charles served in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Mound Valley where he farmed and retired as a Postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring, he moved to Hot Springs where he had lived since.
He was a member of the Mound Valley United Methodist Church and a 69-year member of Masonic Lodge #69 in Altamont. He enjoyed collecting arrowheads.
On April 20, 1941, he and Anna Jean Hite were married in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on October 14, 1998.
Survivors include: Two Sons – C. Read Oakleaf and his wife, Donna Hot Springs, AR Allen Oakleaf and his wife, Dottie Wichita, KS Two Daughters – Cecilia Paynter Hot Springs, AR Marcia Johnson Hot Springs, AR Twelve Grandchildren Twenty-Eight Great-Grandchildren
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Linnaeus Oakleaf, on January 17, 2008.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 21, 2013, at the Mound Valley United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
