Cami Jo Umbarger

Cami Jo Umbarger, 29, and her three children, Hollie Betts, 9, Jaxon Betts, 6, and Averie Betts, 4, of Parsons, died at their home in Parsons. She was born March 19, 1984 at Wilson County Hospital in Neodesha, Kansas to Larry E. Umbarger, II and Cindy A. (Smedley) Umbarger. She grew up and attended school at Thayer where she graduated from Thayer High School in 2002. In 2003, she moved to Parsons where she had lived since. In 2006, she earned an Associates degree in nursing from Neosho County Community College in Chanute. Cami was currently working part-time as a licensed practical nurse at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor and also as a charge nurse at Parsons Good Samaritan Society. Her children were her passion. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved her work. She was a member of the Thayer Christian Church. Survivors include: Father – Larry E. Umbarger and wife, Debbie Thayer, KS Mother – Cindy A. Colbert and husband, William Lee’s Summit, MO Three Brothers – Larry Umbarger, III Thayer, KS Drew DeMeritt and wife, Angela Chanute, KS William Colbert, II Lee’s Summit, MO One Sister – Beth Ann Umbarger and fiancée, Isaac Whitehead Park City, KS Paternal Grandmother – Carol Umbarger Thayer, KS Paternal Grandparents – Larry and Sue Bailey Earlton, KS Maternal Grandfather – Eddie Smedley and wife, Mary Ellen Thayer, KS Paternal Great-Grandmother – Eleanor Rains Chanute, KS

Hollie Rae Betts was born May 16, 2004 in Joplin, Missouri to Donald Ray Betts, Jr. and Cami Jo Umbarger. She grew up in Parsons where she attended school and was currently a 4th grade student at Guthridge School. Hollie attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Parsons. She loved sports, including basketball, and had been selected to be on the Lady Vikings traveling team. She also had played tackle football through the Parsons Police Football League.

Jaxon Cole Betts was born September 1, 2007 in Parsons, Kansas to Donald Ray Betts, Jr. and Cami Jo Umbarger. He was currently a kindergarten student at Lincoln School in Parsons. Jaxon attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Parsons. He was currently taking karate classes at the West Recreation Center and enjoyed break dancing and sports.

Averie Ann Betts was born August 18, 2009 in Parsons, Kansas to Donald Ray Betts, Jr. and Cami Jo Umbarger. She was currently attending pre-school at Lincoln School in Parsons. Averie attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Parsons. She loved to eat and converse with anyone. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and loved Hello Kitty.

The children are survived by: Father – Donald Betts, Jr. Parsons, KS Maternal Grandparents – Larry Umbarger and wife, Debbie Thayer, KS Cindy Colbert and husband, William Lee’s Summit, MO Paternal Grandmother – Lynn Walker Oklahoma City, OK Maternal Great-Grandmother – Carol Umbarger Thayer, KS Maternal Great-Grandparents – Larry and Sue Bailey Earlton, KS Paternal Great-Grandmother – Carol Patillo Coffeyville, KS Maternal Great-Grandfather – Eddie Smedley and wife, Mary Ellen Thayer, KS Maternal Great-Great-Grandmother – Eleanor Rains Chanute, KS Half Brothers – Jordan Betts Independence, KS Kaden Blake Parsons, KS Keyondre Betts Parsons, KS Half Sisters – Adrielle Betts Independence, KS Adrianna Betts Independence, KS Andrea Betts Independence, KS Makenna Blake Topeka, KS Hadaya Betts Parsons, KS Numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Thayer Christian Church. Burial will be at Thayer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-6:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.

Memorials are suggested to the Parsons Recreation Center. These may be left at or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
