Rick D. Vannoster, 58, of rural Afton, Oklahoma, died at 11:49 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

He was born July 18, 1954, in Wichita, Kansas, to Robert Daniel and Berthann (Guest) Vannoster. As a young boy, he moved with his family to the Coffeyville area where they lived at Dearing, Kansas. Rick was a 1972 graduate of Coffeyville High School.

While attending high school and after, he worked at Haymaker Furniture in Coffeyville. He then worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and later the Union Pacific Railroad.

He and Dee A. Hoffman were married December 31, 1977, in Wichita, Kansas.
While working for the UP Railroad, the family lived in Paola until moving to their present home at Grand Lake in 2007.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Rick enjoyed fishing, carpentry, woodworking and his dogs. He dearly loved his grandchildren and especially loved spending time with them, his family and many friends.

Two Sons – Shawn Darling and wife, Tina Cameron, MO
Robbie Vannoster Broken Arrow, OK
One Daughter – Summer Reed Afton, OK
Five Grandchildren – Jason Wilson, Trent Darling, Kyler Vannoster, Kelby Vannoster and Rylin Reed
Two Sisters – Patty Ann Shockey and husband, Butch Afton, OK
Tammy Thiele and husband, Boyd Cleora, OK
One Stepbrother – Ricky Lee and wife, Kim Liberty, KS
One Stepsister – Cheral Moore and husband, Jim South Coffeyville, OK

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Vannoster; stepfather, Adrian Lee; and one granddaughter, Karlee Renae Darling.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Ballard Cemetery in Bernice, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, until service time at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
