A. Lee Mayfield, 84, of Chetopa, died at 6:20 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2007 at the Chetopa Manor.
He was born January 13, 1923, in rural Cherokee County to Jasper Earl Mayfield and Betty Ray (Sexton) Mayfield. He grew up east of Chetopa and attended country schools and later graduated from Chetopa High School. He joined the United States Navy during World War II and served in Saipan. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to Chetopa and began working for the BF Goodrich Tire Company. He later worked for Cole's Hatchery, Atlas Steel, and later retired from Sunoco.
In earlier years, he had been a member and deacon in the First Baptist Church in Chetopa. He also had attended the Community Bible Church in Chetopa.
He and Beulah Kinsey were married in November of 1951. They were later divorced. He married Hazel Dugan and they were divorced.

One Sister – Louise Wagner Chetopa, Kansas
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2007 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery with Military Honors given by the American Legion Post #147 of Miami, Oklahoma. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
