Addie L. Stokes, 94, of Oswego, Kansas, and formerly of Maud, Texas, passed away at 12:09 p.m., Monday, September 28, 2015, at Oswego Health and Rehab.
She was born November 9, 1920 in Point, Texas to John Rufus and Julia Virginia (Hall) Carter. As a young girl, she lived in Texas until moving to Arkansas where she lived with her relatives after her parents passed away.
On December 25, 1935, she and Joseph A. "Louie" Stokes were married in Maud, Texas. Following marriage, the couple lived in Texas and later California before returning to Texas in the early 1970's. Mr. Stokes preceded her in death on September 13, 1987. In 2000, Addie moved to Kansas to be near her family.
She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Maud, Texas. While living in Kansas, she attended church in Columbus. Addie enjoyed quilting and reading.
Survivors include:
One Daughter – Helen "Jill" Darland and her husband, Ivan Rural Oswego, KS
One Granddaughter – Lisa Bayless and her husband, Josiah
Two Great-Grandchildren – Addison and Jeriah Bayless
One Brother – John Carter Lebanon, OR
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sadie Marie Stokes, at the age of three; four brothers, and one sister,
Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Center Ridge Cemetery in Maud, Texas under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
