Alan A. Jones, 62, of rural Mound Valley, died at 12:38 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2012 in the Emergency Room at Labette Health. He had been in his usual health and death was not expected. He was born July 25, 1949, in Parsons, Kansas, to Byron D. and Ruth Marcell (Thomas) Jones. Alan grew up in rural Mound Valley and was a 1967 graduate of Labette County High School in Altamont. Following high school, he served six years in the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of the Mound Valley Christian Church, a lifetime member of the National Farmers Organization and had served in various capacities at both the county and state levels; and had served several years on the National Resources Conservation Service Board. He especially enjoyed his chosen profession of farming and, through the years, had collected toy farm equipment, especially anything New Holland. His prized-possession was his 1972 Ford pickup referred to as "Old Blue". He was fondly called "Grumpy" by his adoring seven grandchildren. He and Deanna Bradshaw were married October 3, 1970 in Parsons. She survives of the home. In addition to his wife, survivors include: One Son – Kevin Jones and his wife, Teresa Mound Valley, KS One Daughter – Cindy White and her husband, Matt Oswego, KS Seven Grandchildren – Dustin White Grinnell, KS Ryan White Oswego, KS Mary-Lynn White Oswego, KS Shyanne, Cloey and Brody and Makayla Jones Mound Valley, KS One Brother – Ray Jones Parsons, KS One Sister – Judy Carroll and husband, Dan Independence, KS One Foster Brother – John Duncan and his wife, Beverly Arlington, WA Numerous Nieces and Nephews He was preceded in death by his parents; and two infant sisters, Juanita and Cynthia Jones. Private graveside services will be held by the family. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Mound Valley Community Center. Friends may call at their convenience from 3-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Memorials are suggested to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home.
