Alexander M. "Alex" Ybarra, 72, of Mound Valley, Kansas, passed away the evening of Sunday, October 18, 2020, at his home after a brief illness.

Alexander Marino Ybarra was born on January 8, 1948, to Jose and Carmen (Leon) Ybarra in Mound Valley, Kansas. He grew up and attended school in Mound Valley. Following graduating from Labette County High School, he went on to Labette County Junior College and then earned a Bachelor's degree from Pittsburg State University.

A lifelong resident of Mound Valley, Alex was an auditor for the state of Kansas for 38 years. He also farmed and raised cattle. As a young man, he served in the United States Army Reserves. In 1995, he was elected to the Mound Valley City Council on which he served for over twenty years and he was a member of the Rural Water District Board for the Mound Valley area.

Alex was a member of the Foursquare Church in Parsons. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed taking care of his cattle, gardening, travelling and going to PSU football games, as he was a longtime season ticket holder.

On August 20, 1993, Alex and Brenda L. Adams were united in marriage in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. She survives of the home.

Two daughters – Ashlea Alloway and her husband, Gary, of Parsons, Kansas

Angela Tomey of Austin, Texas

Seven grandchildren – Tarryn, Gabriel, Ava, Brady, Khylar, Ella and Ivy

Three great-grandchildren – Eloise, Jude and Jonah

Two brothers – Joe Ybarra and his wife, Molly, of Mound Valley, Kansas

Jesse Ybarra and his wife, Peggy, of Altamont, Kansas

Two sisters – Bessie Disch of Texas

Rosie Corle of Independence, Kansas

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kyle Tomey in 1997; and one sister, Mona Davidson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2020, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. The funeral service can be viewed live on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page. For all events, social distancing guidelines will be followed, including the requirement of face masks.

Memorials are suggested to Parsons Foursquare Church or The 506 Foundation, Inc. – Alex Ybarra Memorial Scholarship. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS.
