Chetopa

Alfred E. "Bud" Brown, Sr., 82 of Chetopa, died at 10:30 p.m., Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Via Christi Village Assisted Living in Pittsburg.

He was born on June 21, 1935 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Earl A. Brown and Lilly (Shaw) Brown.  He grew up in Little Rock and graduated from Central High School.  He joined the United States Air Force and served for three years.  Following his discharge, he returned to Little Rock.  Mr. Brown worked in the Fiberglass and painting industry for several years.  He worked for Wonder State Paint Company and also Enmier Incorporated in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.  He moved to Chetopa in 1973 where he began several businesses that manufactured fiberglass products and furniture which were supplied to Recreational Vehicle manufacturing companies.  He also owned and operated "Aqua Plush" in Coffeyville.

Mr. Brown was a member of the First Church of God in Coffeyville and served as the head usher there.  He served on the City Council in Chetopa and the Chetopa High School Athletic Booster Club.  He was a member the Gideons International.

An avid fisherman, Bud was drawn to Chetopa because of the fishing and has spent countless hours on the banks of the Neosho River.

He and June Carolyn Bourne were married on March 21, 1956 in Little Rock, Arkansas.  She preceded him in death on May 3, 2010.

Alfred Earl Brown, Jr.                                    Collinsville, Oklahoma

Eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one sister, Debra Cahoon of Loveland, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Brown.

The family would like to thank granddaughter, Bethany Brown-Spencer, for her endless love and care of Bud for the past seven years.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Oak Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with Military Honors given by the Brown-Bishop Post #704 Veterans of Foreign Wars, of Parsons.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Church of God in Coffeyville.  These may be left at or mailed to the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 346, Chetopa, KS 67336.
