Alfred L. Van Dyne, Jr., 75, of Parsons, died at 7:30 a.m., Monday, January 14, 2008, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born October 24, 1932, in Parsons, to Alfred L. Van Dyne, Sr. and Hazel P. (Poston) Van Dyne.
He was a graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont and attended college for four years. He served as staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. While serving in the army, he lived in various places in the United States.
He and Anna Manley were married in October 1952, in Arkansas. They later divorced.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2008, at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery with military honors given by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
