Alice A. "Ally Ann" Markiewicz, 74, of Altamont, died at 3:38 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2011 at her home. She had been in failing health.
She was born August 12, 1937, in Liberty, Kansas, to George Franklin and Gladys Irene (Dickerson) Lee. She grew up and attended schools in rural Labette County and was a 1956 graduate of Labette County Community High School. She then earned a Bachelor's degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. For several years, she was a teacher in public schools.
She married Gale Mandevill. They later divorced. On March 1, 1977, she and Carl S. Markiewicz were married in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death June 4, 2007. Through the years, she had lived in California, Pennsylvania and Nevada before moving to Altamont, following her husband's death, to be near family.
She enjoyed reading, babysitting and traveling. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Edna.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be at the Edna Elm Grove Cemetery at a future date.
