Alice Virginia Williams

Alice Virginia Williams, 84, of Parsons, died at 10:59 p.m., Monday, June 7, 2010, at Elm Haven East Nursing Home.

She was born February 28, 1926, in Columbus, Kansas, to James Monroe and Lydia (Young) Lewis. She grew up and attended schools in Columbus and also Riverton High School.

In 1943, she and James Wallace McGuire were married in Nashville, Tennessee. While he was serving his country during World War II, she lived with her mother in Sherwin. Upon his discharge, they lived in Oswego for a time before moving to Oregon for several years. The family then moved to Parsons where she worked at Fred Ronald Manufacturing Company, Brodericks, and also made cakes for weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. He preceded her in death in 1970.

On December 28, 1971, she and Robert Williams were married in Miami, Oklahoma. He survives of the home.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Parsons, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #411 where she also held numerous offices at the local level and State Guard; and Brown-Bishop Post No. 704 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Parsons.

She was a collector, enjoyed playing bingo and pinochle, going to casinos, camping, fishing and doing crafts.

Kathy Arp and husband, Joe Brighton, CO

One Brother – Merlin Lewis Chetopa, KS

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Roy, Raymond, Clinton, William, Glen and Richard Lewis; three sisters, Lora Lewis, and twins, Thelma and Velma Lewis; and one son, Raymond McGuire in 2000.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
