Allen N. Mariott, 90, of Chetopa, Kansas died at 3:15 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Chetopa Manor Nursing Home.
He was born January 12, 1922 at Omaha, Arkansas to John and Stella (Hoffman) Mariott. Following his father's death, he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Alfred Garringer. He grew up and attended schools in Alba, Missouri and graduated from the Alba High School.
He was united in marriage to Mary Schindler at Johnson, Kansas on July 13, 1949. She survives.
Mr. Mariott served in the United States Army during World War II in Italy and Africa. Following his discharge, he entered civil service and worked in various areas of the country mainly in electronics. Following his retirement from civil service, they moved to Altamont where they lived for several years while Mr. Mariott worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons. Following his retirement from the ammunition plant, they moved to Chetopa, Kansas where they have lived for the past 35 years.
He enjoyed tinkering and repairing old household items.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Chetopa; three sons, Richard and his wife Lee Anne Mariott of Sacramento, California, Donald Mariott of Springfield, Missouri and Kenneth Mariott of Chetopa; One daughter, Patricia Saathoff and her husband, Douglas of Sacramento, California; fourteen grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and a sister, Susan Anne Snyder of Walnut Creek, California.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday. Burial will be at the Oakhill Cemetery at Chetopa.
