Allene E Ramey

Allene E. Ramey, 95, of Parsons, Kansas, passed away at 2:02 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2019 at Labette Health.

On May 19, 1924, Allene Elma Karr was born to Doril "Whitey" and Lola M. (Nigh) Karr in Parsons, Kansas. A lifelong Parsonian, Allene grew up and attended school in Parsons and graduated from Parsons High School in 1942. During World War II, Allene worked with her mother in Karr's Grocery Store. She was a department manager for Montgomery Ward in Parsons from 1956 to 1962.

Allene was a member of the First Christian Church. She also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, the Senior Citizen's League and Christian Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed raising cattle and other animals and working in the garden.

She married Warren J. Ramey on January 16, 1942, in Columbus, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2002.

Survivors include:

One Son – Mitchell W. Ramey and his wife, Gina, of Parsons

One Grandson – Jayson M. Ramey of Parsons

One Great-grandson – Ivan Ramey of Parsons

One Great-granddaughter – Layla G. Ramey of Parsons

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren J. Ramey, on February 12, 2002; Glenda Nigh, who was raised in their home; her sister, Evelyn Winters; her brother-in-law, Ken Ramey; and her sister-in-law, Lola Ramey.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Parsons. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
