Alvera C. Erskin, 71, of Parsons, died at 3:25 p.m., Monday, February 14, 2011, at her home. She had been in failing health.

She was born October 28, 1939, in Chanute, Kansas, to Ira Raymond and Evaline Amanda (Maloney) Crater. As a young girl she grew up in southeast Kansas and later attended Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

She was employed by Fred Ronald Manufacturing Company in Parsons from 1962-1964, was a self-employed day care provider from 1964-1976, worked as a lab technician at the Katy Hospital from 1976-1980, a desk clerk at the Canterbury Inn from 1985–1989, and as a home health aide for SRS from 1989–1992.

She was a member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church, now St. Patrick's, and its Altar Society in the 1970's, and the Eagles Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and in earlier years was an avid bowler.

She and Gerald Schibi were married in 1959. They later divorced. On February 14, 1986, she and Donald Erskin were married in Parsons. He survives of the home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one son, Mark Schibi, on June 10, 1977.



The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 18, 2011, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick's School Gymnasium Renovation Fund. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
