Alverna J. Mayfield, 75, of Chetopa, died at 1:55 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Labette Health in Parsons. She had been in failing health.
She was born November 29, 1931, in Columbus, Kansas, to William Ray and Mildred E. (Correll) Mayfield. She was a lifetime resident of southeast Kansas. As a young girl, she grew up and attended Center School, rural Columbus.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chetopa. She enjoyed attending church, music and fishing.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 6, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, rural Columbus. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
