Amy Kathleen Steig

Amy Kathleen Steig, 43, of rural Cherryvale, Kansas, died at 12:40 p.m., Friday, July 26, 2013 at her home. She was born October 9, 1969 at Tulsa, Oklahoma to Dennis and Ellen (Benight) Steig. She lived in Owasso until moving with her family to Mound Valley, Kansas following her kindergarten year. She attended grade school at Mound Valley from 1st thru 8th grade and then graduated from the Labette County High School at Altamont. She also graduated from the Labette Community College at Parsons. Her passion was working with children with special needs. She had worked at the Parsons State Hospital and later Rainbow Mental Health Facility at Wichita. She had most recently been an in-home educator working in the Birth to Three program with the University of Kansas through the Parsons State Hospital. While working in foster care, she cared mostly for special needs children and adopted four of her foster children. She loved animals. She had been active in 4H and had been a state officer with FHA in the past. She loved spending time with her family and friends but her children were her main hobby. She had attended the Westside Christian Church in Parsons in the past. Survivors include three sons, Zachary Steig, William Steig and Jett Steig and one daughter, Ayla Steig all of the home; her longtime companion, Jack Jett of Dennis, Kansas; her parents, Dennis and Ellen Steig of rural Cherryvale, Kansas; her brother, Chris Steig and his wife, Bobbi of rural Cherryvale; two sisters, Denise Steig of Norman, Oklahoma and Becky May of Frontenac, Kansas. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Harmony Grove Cemetery near Dennis, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday.
