Arthur Evans

Arthur "Robert" Evans, 84, of Chetopa, died at 12:43 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Chetopa Manor in Chetopa.


He was born July 23, 1923 in Melrose, Kansas, to Samuel Arthur Evans and Kittie Frances (Headley) Evans. He attended Fairview elementary school and graduated from Columbus High School in 1942. He had worked in the mines in the area before owning and operating the Phillips 66 gas station in Chetopa. He later worked for BF Goodrich. He was also a farmer and stockman. Mr. Evans was an antique collector and operated the Country Peddler Flea Market in Chetopa. He enjoyed collecting Aladdin Lamps and was a member of the "Aladdin Knights" club. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

He was a member of the Melrose Methodist Church.

He and Barbara Jo Hale were married on June 2, 1945, at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Chetopa. She survives of the home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at the Melrose Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
