Audrey E. Wheat, 97, a lifelong resident of Labette County, died at 9:20 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2007, at Labette Health in Parsons.
She was born April 25, 1910, in Parsons, to Alfred Byrl and Myrtle Myrl (Myers) Manners. She grew up and attended schools in Parsons, graduating from Parsons High School.
She and Addis Volney Wheat were married. Together they operated "Wheat Brothers Dairy", a dairy farm located three miles south of Parsons. They later divorced. In 1995, she and Jack Vanderford were married. He preceded her in death.
She also had worked as head cook at Parsons State Hospital & Training Center where she retired in 1973. She was a member of the Senior Card Club and the Senior Citizens Dance Club. She also had attended and was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Joycie "Jackie" Watts and Beryl D. Fultz; two brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Spring Hill Cemetery in rural Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the Forbes Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
