Barbara Regina (Westhoff) Born, 92, a lifelong resident of the St. Paul area, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
Born on March 13, 1924 in Greenbush, Kansas, Barbara was the eighth child of Charles Hiram and Mary Clemence (Nicolas) Westhoff. She grew up in the Greenbush area and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1943.
On November 3, 1943, Barbara wed Donald E. Born at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Greenbush, Kansas and they were happily married for 69 years. Barbara was a loving wife and wonderful mother and spent most of her life in a labor of love as a farmer's wife and great homemaker. She was also the bookkeeper for Born Farms and Don Born's lime hauling business.
After retirement in the fall of 2000, Barbara and Don left the family farm and moved to St. Paul. Over five years ago, Barbara moved to Prairie Mission Retirement Village.
Barbara was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, the Daughters of Isabella and Altar Society, and the Gents and Janes Card Club.
Barbara is survived by three sons, Jim Born and his wife, Terry, of the home farm in St. Paul, KS, Ted Born and his wife, Carmella, of Olathe, KS, and Tom Born and his wife, Louisa, of Frontenac, KS; three daughters, Joan Davied of Girard, KS, Donna Gibson and her husband, John, of Riverton, KS, and Kathie Grosdidier and her husband, Steve, of St. Paul, KS; 25 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and her only living sibling, her sister, Therese Rose Koester, of Joplin, MO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Born, on March 31, 2013; an infant daughter, Doris Jean Born; her parents, Charles Hiram and Clemence (Nicolas) Westhoff; ten brothers and sisters, infant Sarah Elizabeth Westhoff, John Herman Westhoff, Edward Westhoff, Sylvester "Vess" Albert Westhoff, Bernard William Westhoff, Francis Otis "Odie" Westhoff, Julia Marie Hayden, Leonard Joseph Westhoff, Clemence Louise Kennedy, and Cecilia Mae Ohs; and her son-in-law, James Davied.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2016 at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at St. Francis Catholic Church. It is requested that family and friends not arrive at the church on Friday prior to 7:15 p.m. due to a wedding rehearsal.
