Barbara A. Burnett

Barbara A. Burnett, 75, of Benton, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, with her loving husband by her side. Barbara Anita Ferguson was born in Independence, Kansas on September 18th, 1948 to Fred and Bessie Ferguson. Barbara grew up on a farm in Mound Valley with her two younger brothers, Gene and Jerry. She graduated from Labette County High School in 1966.

While working at Westar in Wichita, Kansas, Barbara met the love of her life, Mike Burnett. For thirty years, the two shared a life of laughter, love and adventure. Barbara was an avid KU and Chiefs fan, but cheering on her grandchildren brought her the most joy.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Michael E. Burnett, of the home; her son David Hapner and wife Janet; daughter Darmin Owings and husband Brian; stepson, Jeremy Burnett, and wife Tracy; stepson, Damean Burnett, and wife Jennifer; ten grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; mother Bessie Ferguson; brother Gene Ferguson and wife Darlene; brother Jerry Ferguson and wife Leslie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Ferguson.

The celebration of life will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Mound Valley Christian Church in Mound Valley. Burial will follow at Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. Monday until the service begins at the church.
