Barbara Joan Fish, 79, of Chetopa, died at 7:05 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2011, at Chetopa Manor.
She was born September 7, 1932, in Vinita, Oklahoma to Edwin and Pearl Ina (Hays) Dow. As a young woman she worked at Northeastern Oklahoma State Training Center. She later worked at Utes Nursing Home in Chetopa and the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons.
She enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising horses when she was younger. She also enjoyed playing the guitar, piano, fiddle, accordion and singing. Through the years, she had written many poems, numerous articles for The Parsons Sun, and had one book published, "Francis Inherits a Ghost. She had attended Keelville Church and the Community Bible Church in Chetopa.
She and Edward H. Fish were married September 15, 1960, in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death June 17, 2002.
Survivors include:
One Son – Michael Bryant Chetopa, KS
One Daughter – Robin Polk Chetopa, KS
Two Grandchildren
Six Great-Grandchildren
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2011 at Community Bible Church in Chetopa.
