Barbara L. Burnett

Barbara L. Burnett, 60, of Chetopa, passed away at 3:50 a.m., Sunday, June 4, 2023, at her home.

Barbara Lynn Burnett was born on August 9, 1962, to George and Jesmon (Caldwell) Burnett in Oswego, Kansas.  As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Chetopa, graduating from Chetopa High School in 1980.  Following high school, Barbara attended Coffeyville Community College on a volleyball scholarship.

For a number of years, Barbara worked as a Certified Medical Aide in the area.

A sports enthusiast, Barbara loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the University of Oklahoma softball.  She enjoyed watching movies and listening to music, especially the Eagles.  The 4th of July and Christmas were her favorite holidays to celebrate.  Her greatest joy came from spending time with and caring for her family and friends.

Survivors include:

Her husband of over 25 years – Ricky Lee Castle of the home

One daughter – Jessica Smith (Charles) of Miami, Oklahoma

One granddaughter – Harper Grace Smith

Her best friend – Michael Butress of the home

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.  A private family burial will take place at a later time at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.
