Barbara J. Pace, 69, of Iola, formerly of Parsons, died at 3:25 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2008, at her home. She had been in failing health.
She was born August 24, 1939, in Iola, Kansas, to Paul and Ada (Thornhill) Lewis. She grew up and attended schools in Iola graduating from Iola High School in 1957.
In the late 1960's, she moved to Parsons where she worked at Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator until transferring with the company to the Wichita area in 1981. In the mid 1980's, she moved to Laughlin, Nevada, where she worked as a blackjack dealer, before returning to Iola, in 1995, where she had lived since.
She enjoyed going on Caribbean cruises with her family and meeting with Iola Class of '57 classmates each month. She was a member of the Tri-State Horse Show Association, the Kansas Arabian Horse Club, and was the first woman president of the Parsons Riding Club.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Ada and Phil Fretz.
Following cremation, the family will hold private committal services at a future date.
