Belinda Fitzjohn, 71, of Altamont, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Belinda Allen was born on February 12, 1952, to Billy Price and Barbara LaMae (Moss) Allen in Parsons, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in Mound Valley and graduated from LCHS in 1970. In 1975, Belinda started college at LCC and then Pittsburg State University, graduating with her Bachelor's and two Master's in Education. For 17 years, she enjoyed her career as a teacher for USD 506 at Bartlett and Mound Valley Grade Schools.
She was a member of the Altamont United Methodist Church. Always wanting to grow in her relationship with God, Belinda would often sing hymns around the house. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, who never complained and always put family first. She also enjoyed listening to old country music, crocheting pot scrubbers, and watching football.
On May 2, 1998, Belinda and Harold Wayne Fitzjohn were united in marriage in Altamont. He preceded her in death in December 1998.
Survivors include:
One son – Blake Pilkington of Pittsburg, Kansas
One daughter – Barbara Jo Brown (Kelly Brown) of Altamont, Kansas
Seven grandchildren – Kira Elsey, Trinity Thompkins (Trey Robinson), Belinda Thompkins, Johnathan Thompkins, Myles Harper, Moses Harper, and Donna Grace Brown
Two great-grandchildren - Tyler and William Elsey
Her mother - Barbara Allen of Mound Valley, Kansas
Besides her husband, Harold, she was preceded in death by her father, Billy Allen and one grandson, Ryan Allen Pilkington.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Altamont, with burial at the Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00 p.m.
