Bernadine H. Nash, 101, of Chetopa, passed away at 6:25 a.m., Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the Chetopa Manor.
On July 16, 1918, Bernadine Heloise was born to Lewis S. and Lillie (Sterling) Haire in Welch, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended school in the Chetopa area.
She and Lester E. Nash were married on October 10, 1936, in Oswego, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2006. The couple owned and operated Nash's Texaco in Chetopa, Kansas from the 1960's to the early 1980's.
Bernadine was a member of the First Christian Church of Chetopa and the Chetopa Garden Club and had been an active member of her community.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her Cherokee Indian heritage was very important to Bernadine and she imparted that to her family. She also enjoyed playing cards, bowling and going to Grand Lake.

Six Grandchildren – Ronald Clayborn and his wife, Beverly, of Conroe, Texas
Judy Morrill and her husband, Cade, of Wann, Oklahoma
Randall Clayborn of Tuscon, Arizona,
Belinda Davis of Independence, Kansas
Tonia Wilson and her husband, Darren, of Chetopa, Kansas
Trevor Clayborn and his wife, Rachel, of Longmont, Colorado
Twelve Great-Grandchildren – Samantha Segura, David Clayborn, Chad Morrill, Jenifer Olinger, Kyle Davis, Laci Carpenter, Shelby Demo, Jerica Wilson, Deja Wilson, Anna Clayborn, Ryan Clayborn and Mira Clayborn
Fifteen Great-Great Grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Shirlene Poor and Glenda A. Clayborn; one son-in-law, Jerry Clayborn; and one brother, Leland Haire.
There will be a Graveside service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.
