Bernetta M. "Bert" Eck, 78, of Parsons, died at 6:15 a.m., Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Labette Health in Parsons.


She was born December 7, 1931, in Ransom, Kansas, to Albert and Helena (Gronniger) Kraus. She grew up and attended elementary school in St. Marks, Kansas, and was a graduate of Garden Plain High School. After high school, she moved to Wichita where she worked as a secretary.

She and Joe Eck were married August 9, 1958, in Garden Plain. Following marriage, the couple lived in Haven, Kansas, before moving to Oswego where they farmed. They then moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, where they owned and operated a recreational vehicle business before moving to Newton, Kansas, where they were co-owners of a Ford dealership.
Following the death of her husband on June 21, 1975, she returned to Oswego where she worked as a pharmacy tech at Oswego Pharmacy and later at Commercial Bank as a bank teller until retirement. She recently moved to Parsons where she had lived since.

She was a member of the Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego and its Altar Society and was currently attending St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.

One Granddaughter – Whitney Jo Brown
One Great-Grandson – Adrian Joseph Brown
Three Brothers – Lavern Kraus Wichita, KS
Raymond Kraus Garden Plain, KS
J.R. "Junior" Kraus Garden Plain, KS
Two Sisters – Mary Stephenson Oklahoma City, OK
Rita Chalmers Manset, ME

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Patricia.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at the Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Ost, Kansas. The rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., Monday, November 29, 2010, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where the family will receive friends immediately following.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick's School Endowment Fund. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
