Bertie L. Gearhart

Bertie L. Gearhart, 91, of Parsons, died at 1:40 a.m., Sunday, March 4, 2012, at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society.

She was born March 5, 1920 in Butler County, Kansas to Gid Harrison and Pearl (Edwards) Williams. She grew up in Butler County and graduated from Downs High School in 1938.

She married Maynard Gearhart on June 5, 1938 at Washington, Kansas. Following marriage, they lived in Downs and Smith Center, Kansas. They later divorced. In 1947, she and Randall Smith were married. Together, they adopted a son, Mark. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on July 23, 1962. In 1967, she and Francis Sheets were married. They lived and farmed near Downs, Kansas. Mr. Sheets died in 1970. In 1972, she and Maynard Gearhart remarried and lived in North Platte, Nebraska. He preceded her in death in 1989. She moved to Kansas in 1989. In the latter part of 1992, she returned to North Platte where she lived until returning to Kansas in 2008.

Survivors include:
One Son – Mark Smith and wife, Tina rural Altamont, KS
Two Grandchildren – Brandon Smith Altamont, Kansas
Keri Smith Altamont, Kansas
Two Sisters – Armistice Albert Lawrence, KS
Bonnie Ritter Topeka, KS

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Dwight, Dean, Kenneth and Howard Williams; two sisters, Maxine Stuart and Irene Schneider; and one grandson, Cory Smith on November 18, 2006.

Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.

Memorials are suggested to the Parsons Good Samaritan Society Garden Fund or Hospice Care of Kansas. These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 325, Altamont, KS 67330.
