Berva Marie Decow

Berva Marie DeCow, 92, of Parsons, formerly of Altamont, died at 9:50 a.m., Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Elmhaven West Nursing Home in Parsons. She was born December 31, 1920 in Edna, Kansas to Charles Gerald and Ruth Ellen (Waugh) Hagan. She lived all of her life in Labette County with the exception of three years. During that time, her family lived in Tuxedo, Oklahoma where her father found employment. In 1931, her family returned to Labette County where she attended school and was a graduate of Labette County High School in Altamont. On June 1, 1941, she married Ralph Clinton DeCow at Labette City. She worked 13 years as a nurse's aide and medication aide at Retirement Acres Nursing Home in Altamont and was also a Stanley Home Products representative for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oswego, Rebekah Lodge in Altamont, the Patriarch's Militant Auxiliary, the Ladies Encampment Auxiliary, and the Altamont Saddle Club and square dance horse team. Survivors include: Three Sons – Ronald DeCow Edna, KS Terry DeCow Edna, KS Marvin DeCow Wichita, KS One Daughter – Darlene Trollope Coffeyville, KS 26 Grandchildren 14 Great-Grandchildren Two Brothers – Daniel Hagan Tiffin, OH Billy Hagan St. Charles, MO She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph DeCow, on April 6, 2005; one brother, L. D. Hagan; and one sister, Wilma Addock. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be at Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
