Bessie Mae McWilliams, 75, of Parsons, died at 3:39 p.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at Labette Health. Her death was not expected.
She was born June 30, 1932, in Natchez, Alabama, to Robert and Annie Lou (Thompson) Matthews.
She and Leslie McWilliams were married with eight children being born to that union. In 1963, the family moved to Parsons where Bessie worked at various jobs including the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, Labette Community College, Osage Trails, Charloma of Cherryvale, Canterbury Inn, Parsonian Hotel and the Townsman Restaurant. She was also a day care provider for many years. Bessie retired in 1997 at which time she was working part time for SKIL.
She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and fishing. She received special enjoyment when gathering with her family and friends. Bessie was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Parsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twin daughters, one son, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three brothers.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2007, at Watson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2007, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
