Bettie E. Sanborn, 80, of Wichita, died at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at her home. She had been in failing health.
Bettie was born at Salina, Kansas on October 27, 1933, the daughter of Lyman J. and Grace E. (Wyant) Rees. She grew up and attended school in Salina, Kansas and graduated from high school there in 1952. Following high school, she attended the Marymount College at Salina where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1954. Bettie worked at St. John's Hospital in Salina from 1954 to 1961 and from 1961 to 1972, she was the head nurse at the Salina Clinic. In 1972, she moved to Wichita where she was a Patient Care Supervisor at the St. Francis Hospital from 1972 to 1986.
She loved cooking and working crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of the Pine Valley Christian Church in Wichita, Kansas.
Bettie is survived by three grandsons and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen, who died in 2004. She was also preceded in death by one brother, one granddaughter and her parents.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2014 at the Pine Valley Christian Church located at 5620 E. 21st Street North in Wichita, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 noon until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Pine Valley Christian Church and these may be left at the church or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
