Betty G. Edwards, 90, of Chetopa, died at 10:39 a.m., Sunday, June 29, 2014 in the Emergency Room at Labette Health in Parsons.

She was born April 13, 1924 in Springfield, Illinois to James and Grace (Hale) Botonis. She graduated high school in Watts, California and later attended art school in Kansas City, Missouri.

During World War II, Betty worked in the construction of airplanes. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Chetopa. She enjoyed painting, drawing, and spending time with her family and friends.

She and Edwin H. Smith were married in April of 1946 in Wichita. They later divorced. She and Chester Edwards were married. He preceded her in death in 2005.

Survivors include one son, Edwin Smith, Chetopa, KS; one daughter, Betty Nettles, Spring, TX; five grandchildren, Miranda Hall, Christopher Rauscher, Sierra Nettles, Steven Smith and Izak Smith; one great-grandson, Dylan Austin Hall; and one sister, Nadine Botonis, Redondo Beach, CA.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Benny Botonis; and one sister, Louise Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.

Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church in Chetopa. These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 346, Chetopa, KS 67336.
