Betty A. Heady

Betty A. Heady, 90, of Parsons, passed away at 5:55 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Presbyterian Manor in Parsons.

Betty Ann Chickadonz was born on July 30, 1931, to Glenn Dey and Lois Viola (Clower) Chickadonz in Urbana, Kansas.  She grew up and attended schools in Chanute, Earlton and Thayer areas, graduating from Chanute High School in 1948.

Following high school, she attended Chanute Junior College for a time.  She taught country school for three years.  From 1971 to 1977, Betty was a cook at the Parsons Middle School.  In 1977, she began working at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center until she retired.

Betty was an active member of the Westside Christian Church in Parsons and Don't Dodge Difficulty.  She spent many hours volunteering in the Parsons community, at Labette County Medical Center as a Pink Lady, for Meals on Wheels, at Blood Drives and at the Parsons Historical Museum.  A very talented seamstress, Betty lovingly made many quilts and clothes for dolls and Barbies.

On November 23, 1951, Betty and Ralph E. Heady were united in marriage in Topeka, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on November 5, 2021.

Survivors include:

Three sons – Dwain Heady and his wife, Lou, of Wichita, Kansas

Brett Heady and his wife, Cheryl, of Parsons, Kansas

Galyn Heady and his wife, Lisa, of Edna, Kansas

One daughter – Lois Heady of Parsons, Kansas

Nine grandchildren

Fifteen great-grandchildren

Two brothers – Dean Chickadonz of Wickenburg, Arizona

Donnie Chickadonz of Chanute, Kansas

Three sisters – Evelyn King of Summerville, South Carolina

Bonnie Yowell of Wichita, Kansas

Carolyn Buscher of Olney, Illinois

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.  Burial will follow at Shaw Cemetery in Shaw, Kansas.  The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
