Betty L. Hopkins

Betty L. Hopkins, 77, of Parsons, died at 6:21 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2014 at Labette Health.

She was born February 19, 1937 in Danville, Arkansas to Jack L. and Bertha E. (Byrd) Thomas. At the age of five, she moved with her family to Parsons where she attended schools and had lived since.

She and Loren Malick were married. They later divorced. On November 9, 1955 she and Clay Hopkins were married in Chetopa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1988.

In earlier years, Betty worked at the Canterbury Inn as a housekeeper, Grandview Products, and as nurse's aide at various nursing homes. She then worked at Power Flame for 20 years until retiring in 1999.

She loved to read and enjoyed camping, fishing and crafts. She especially enjoyed spending time with her numerous grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, one sister, two sons, Harold Hopkins in June of 2000, and infant Jack Hopkins in 1962; and three daughters, Glenna Arie in July of 2000,Melissa Watts in November of 2000, and Kelly Garrett on February 24, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
