Betty A. Martin

Betty A. Martin, 77, formerly of Mound Valley, died at 12:15 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Pittsburg Care and Rehab Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.

She was born on August 27, 1939 in Chattahoochee, Florida to John and Jewel (Atwater) Shelter.  She grew up and attended schools in Alabama.  She and Willie T. Martin were married on October 4, 1955 in Blakely, Georgia.  Following their marriage, they lived in Tampa, Florida.  Mrs. Martin worked in a plant nursery for several years.  Following their retirement, they moved to Mound Valley in 2002.  Mr. Martin preceded her in death on November 22, 2006.

She enjoyed family gatherings, cookouts, fishing, and gardening.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mound Valley.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Thomas H. Martin, and Dianne Martin and a greatgrandchild.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Mound Valley Cemetery in Mound Valley, Kansas.  The family will receive friends at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2017.
