Betty J. Martinie, 86, of rural Altamont, passed away at 5:20 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Oswego Health and Rehab.
She was born on the family farm in Fairview Township, rural Oswego, Kansas on July 23, 1930 to Isaac William and Florence Leona (Cunningham) Strickland. As a young girl, she attended school in Fairview Township and was a 1948 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.
On March 28, 1948, she and William "Bill" Martinie were married at the United Methodist Church in Altamont. Following marriage, the couple lived in Parsons briefly before moving to rural Altamont. Betty worked as a fulltime homemaker while producing large vegetable gardens and operating a dairy with her son, Phillip.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Altamont. Betty was an active member of Labette County Farm Bureau and was honored in 2003 for having served as Women's Chairman for 29 years.

One Brother – Albert Strickland and his wife, Peggy Oswego, KS
One Sister – Karen Ball and her husband, Wesley Colwich, KS
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Altamont. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
