Betty Nicholas, 81, passed away at 12:12 p.m., Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
Edith Elizabeth O'Bryan was born on May 31, 1940, to Everett Arthur and Edith Elizabeth (Mason) O'Bryan in Parsons, Kansas. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Parsons.
Following high school, Betty was united in marriage to Jack A. Nicholas on March 14, 1959. The family lived in Parsons before settling in Dennis. Betty earned an Associate's degree in nursing at Labette Community College. For 34 years, Betty was a Registered Nurse at Labette Health. During this time, she was promoted to Nursing Supervisor and served in that capacity for over 25 years. She was then a RN at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center for seven years before retiring. She was well respected by her peers and patients because of her great love for them. Betty and her husband, Jack, owned and operated Nick's Corner in Dennis forming lifelong friendships.
Betty was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Parsons. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, solving word games and watching game shows, the Chiefs, Jayhawks, Royals and Cardinals.

One son – Clifford E. "Cliff" Nicholas of Parsons, Kansas
Two daughters – Edie Charles of Parsons, Kansas
Blanch Weidert and her husband, Rick, of DeSoto, Kansas
Five grandchildren – Chris Dixon; Lisa Hope and her husband, Josh; Amanda Addis and her husband, Trevor; Melissa Hoffman and her husband, Lynn; and Charlie Weidert
Eight great-grandchildren
Two great-great grandchildren
Two brothers – John O'Bryan and his wife, Debbie, of Ukiah, California
Jim O'Bryan and his wife, Anita, of Independence, Missouri
One sister – Sami Stern of Kansas City, Kansas
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, on March 26, 2001; one son, Jack A. "Jackie" Nicholas, Jr., on February 8, 1989; one son-in-law, Marlon Charles in 2013; one brother, Ed O'Bryan; and two sisters, Macy Carson and Cecilia "Lei" Wade.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 1, 2021, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 3 – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.
