Betty J. Trinkle, 91, lifelong resident of Chetopa, passed away at 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the Chetopa Manor.

Betty Jean Smith was born on July 10, 1929, to Roy Austin and Nellie (Kepford) Smith in Chetopa. She grew up and attended school in Chetopa, graduating from Chetopa High School in 1948.

Throughout her life, Betty worked for different garment manufacturers, including H.D. Lee, Glen-Berrey Garment and Huntsman Camp Manufacturing. She also worked at the Oswego Manor Nursing Home for a time.

She was an active member of the Community Bible Church in Chetopa. A skilled seamstress, Betty loved to quilt. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends.

On September 29, 1956, Betty and Joseph Trinkle were united in marriage at the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 5, 2005.

Survivors include:

Three sons – Eugene Trinkle and his wife, Carol, of Waxahachie, Texas

Paul Trinkle of Chetopa, Kansas

Monty Trinkle of Oronogo, Missouri

Two grandsons – Chad Trinkle and his wife, Valerie, of Waxahachie, Texas

Chance Trinkle and his wife, Ashleigh, of Aransas Pass, Texas

Two great-grandchildren – Maverick Trinkle and Savvy Trinkle

One sister – Mary Carrell and her husband, Jessie, of Chetopa, Kansas

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; and one brother, Jim Smith.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 20, 2021, at the Community Bible Church in Chetopa. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the church. The funeral service can be viewed live on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page. For all events, social distancing guidelines will be followed, including the requirement of face masks.

Memorials are suggested to the Community Bible Church of Chetopa. These can be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 346, Chetopa, KS 67336.
