Betty Lou Wass, 94, of Ozark, Missouri, and formerly of Dennis, Kansas, passed away at 10:48 p.m., Friday, June 1, 2018 at Ozark Nursing and Care Center.

She was born August 9, 1923 in Dennis, Kansas to Louis and Jessie Irene (Mahan) Carson. Betty grew up and attended school in Dennis where she graduated from Dennis High School.

On October 25, 1941, she and Harold B. Wass were married in the Timber Hill area in rural Cherryvale, Kansas. In 1955, Betty began employment at Lee Manufacturing in Cherryvale where she worked until retiring in 1968.

She and Harold were members of the Mt. Zion Community Church. She later attended the Dennis United Methodist Church and greatly enjoyed the fellowship she shared there. Betty enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working word search puzzles, reading, cooking, and doing plastic crafts. Her family was her passion. She loved each one dearly in her own special way.

Survivors include:

One Son – Timothy H. Wass and his wife, Ofelia, of Parsons, KS

Two Daughters – Sharon S. Gueho of Burlington, KS

Connie K. Helms of Ozark, MO

Eight Grandchildren – Vicki Ward, Mike Breeze and his wife, Wendy, Rodney Breeze and his wife, Tina, Delinda Wass, T.J. Wass, Diana Badillo and her husband, Jose, Lizet Giron and her husband, Jose, Jan Buning and her husband, Dan

Numerous Nieces and Nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold Wass, on July 20, 1993; five brothers, Forrest Carson, Bill Carson, Eugene Carson, Albert Hart, and Robert Hart; six sisters, Edith Smith, Eunice Shields, Beulah Pearce, Harriet Blackledge, Bernice Nelson, and Nadine Olthoff; and one grandson, Joe A. Helms, Jr., on March 14, 2012.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., June 23, 2018 at Harmony Grove Cemetery near Dennis. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Mt. Zion Community Church Fellowship Hall, rural Cherryvale.

Memorials are suggested to Mt. Zion Community Church. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67375.
