Chetopa

Betty L. Wilkinson, 81, of Chetopa, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 8:46 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

She was born August 15, 1934 in Pottersville, Missouri to Lloyd and Bernice (Williams) Fox. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Oswego, Kansas.

She and Jack D. Wilkinson were married January 8, 1954 in Labette City. For nearly 40 years, she assisted her husband in his successful chiropractic business until his retirement in July of 1996. In earlier years, the couple authored "Sand and Thistles", "Smilo Greeny", a children's book; and "Big Nose Mountain."

She was a charter member of the Community Bible Church in Chetopa where she also served as treasurer. She was also a member of the Chetopa Public Library Board where she had served two terms as president. Betty enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, collecting things, all kinds of music, and attending auctions and flea markets. She especially enjoyed taking short trips with her family and attending her grandchildren's activities. Betty had a genuine love for people. She was proud to live in the community of Chetopa and most recently as a resident of Chetopa Manor where she made her home. Betty would want everyone to know how much she loved her community, church, friends, and family.
