Beulah M. Kirkland, 86, of Edna, died at 2:36 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2007 at Labette Health. She had been in failing health for several months.
She was born April 8, 1921 at Phoenix City, Alabama to James A. and Anne (Cross) Shelton. She lived in Phoenix City until the age of nine when she moved to Pallet Grove, Missouri after her father's death. She attended Pallet Grove Grade School until moving to Armstrong, Missouri and later Booneville, Missouri where she graduated high school.
She was married to Merlin R. Kirkland on February 1, 1942 at Kansas City, Kansas. Following their marriage, they lived in Coffeyville for a few years until moving to Edna in 1947. She had lived there since then. He preceded her in death on January 4, 2004.
She enjoyed cooking and taking care of family.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, James R. Shelton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Lake Creek Cemetery at Bartlett.
