Beverly Jean Reynolds, 91, who lived her entire life until 2018 with sustaining friends in Parsons, Kansas, passed away at noon Monday, October 5, 2020, at her care home in Wichita, Kansas, near a son. Both sons contacted her daily by phone or visit.
Beverly Jean Workman was born on December 13, 1928, to Charles Edward and Jessie Eugenia (Hamilton) Workman in Parsons. She grew up and attended school in Parsons and graduated from Parsons High School in 1946. She attended Parsons Junior College for one year.
As a young teenager, Beverly sold concessions at the KATY (MKT) station and studied between trains. Primarily Beverly worked as a dental assistant for Parsons State Hospital and Training Center and for various dentists in the Parsons area. She worked also as Assistant to the Chancellor at Parsons Junior College, at Richmond Music, Reynolds' Rug Cleaners and for others who sought her out. She was diligent, pragmatic, inquisitive, a life-long learner. She focused on her sons' education.
Beverly was an active and social member of the Presbyterian Church. In her younger years, she was accomplished at tennis, was a lifeguard and a swimming instructor. Throughout her life, she played Bridge, enjoyed classical music, Hershey's chocolate, crafts and painting and took art classes at Labette Community College.
On March 17, 1947, Beverly and James Joseph Reynolds, a WWII veteran, were married at the Presbyterian Church in Parsons. The couple resided at 1711 Grand, with two sons, but later divorced.
Beverly is survived by her two sons, Stephen J. Reynolds, Ph.D., of Wichita, Kansas; and Stuart W. Reynolds, Ph.D., (Terry) of Cedar Park, Texas.
Beverly was preceded in birth and death by three brothers, Charles E. Workman, Jr. (M.D.); William F. Workman (Engineer) and Max Workman, (appliance salesman, Sears). All veterans of World War II.
No service has been planned. Cremation is under the direction of Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons with a grave marker placed at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons.
