Bobbie J. Porter, 70, a lifelong resident of Parsons, died at 7:40 p.m., Saturday, October 18, 2014 at her home.
She was born December 14, 1943 in Parsons, Kansas to Robert S. and Bessie Mae (Choice) Porter. As a young girl, she attended Douglass Elementary School, West Junior High, and Parsons High School.
Through the years, she worked at Parsons Cold Storage, Fred Ronald Manufacturing Company and the Swift Company. She later worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center for many years until she retired. Following retirement, she was employed by USD 503 for several years.
She was currently a member of the Macedonia Soul Winning Ministry and a former member of the Morgan Avenue Christian Church. She loved interior decorating and hanging wallpaper. She also enjoyed sewing and other handwork, playing the lottery, garage sales, and going to thrift shops.
Survivors include one son, Laurence Porter and his wife, Theresa, Webb City, MO; four daughters, Terrie Davis and husband, Darrell, Memphis, TN, Christy Porter, Angela Porter and Janice Green and her husband, James, all of Parsons, KS; thirteen grandchildren, including Xavier Porter, who lived in her home; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, T.C. Porter, Winona, TX; three sisters, Maggie Gross and Gladys Brown and her husband, Orville, all of Parsons, KS and Deloris Edwards and her husband, Thomas, Little Rock, AR; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Melody Brown and Eva Gross.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert S. Porter and Bessie Mae Porter; three brothers, Roy Lee Choice, Robert Porter, Jr., and Willie Joe Porter; and her partner of many years, Laurence "Sonny" Sells.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Watson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
