Robert D. "Bobby" Poor, 84, of Chetopa, passed away at 6:29 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Oswego Health and Rehab.

Robert Dale Poor was born at home on October 22, 1938, to Richard and Rosita (Keith) Poor in Faulkner, Kansas.  He grew up in Faulkner going to a two-room school house for grade school and graduating from Columbus High School in 1956.

On February 23, 1957, Bobby was joined in marriage with Shirlene Joyce Nash.  They had two children, Judy Joyce and Belinda Dale.  Shirlene preceded him in death on October 23, 1973.

Following high school, Bobby worked for Boeing in Wichita on the tail of the first 747 aircraft.  He transferred to both Seattle and Everett, Washington plants and worked for Boeing until he saved enough money to buy the 80-acre farm he lived on the rest of his life.  Besides running his farm, he worked in the camper business, was a supervisor for Fuel Dynamics and worked with George Davis building and remodeling houses.

An outdoorsman at heart, Bobby loved fishing, hunting, canoeing, raising cattle and working in the pecan orchard.  He enjoyed making a trip to Chetopa and having coffee at Carmendale's with his buddies.

On September 2, 1977, Bobby and Karen Sue Davis were united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma, gaining two more daughters, Tammy and Teresa Pringle.  The couple recently celebrated 46 years of marriage.  She survives of the home.

Tammy Wilborn (Sandy) of Chelsea, Oklahoma

Teresa Hallam of Columbus, Kansas

13 grandchildren

45 great-grandchildren

One great-great-grandchild

One brother – Richard Lee Poor (Carolyn) of Grove, Oklahoma

One sister – June Warstler of Commerce City, Colorado

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirlene; and one brother, Wayne Dean Poor.

There will be a graveside service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.  These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 346, Chetopa, KS  67336.
