Boyd Eugene Eichhorn

June 8, 1936 — July 23, 2007

Boyd Eugene Eichhorn, 71, a lifelong resident of Labette County, died at 5:00 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2007, at his home in rural Oswego, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born June 8, 1936, in Oswego, to Fred and Mildred (Steward) Eichhorn. He grew up and attended Stover Grade School in rural Oswego and was a 1954 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

He later served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned home where he began farming on the family farm that was homesteaded by his grandparents in the early 1920's.

He and Donna Gilreath were married April 8, 1962, in Oswego. She survives of the home.

He was a member of the Zion Hill Community Church where he also served as a deacon, the Altamont Saddle Club, the American Quarter Horse Association and the SEK Appaloosa Horse Club which he helped organize.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting toy tractors and buying and selling horses and tractors. He especially loved his chosen occupation, farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Darlene Palmer.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2007, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at the funeral home.
