Brent Johnston

After a lengthy battle with his health, Brent L. Johnston, 50, of Parsons, peacefully passed away at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at his home.

Brent Lee Johnston was born on November 26, 1971, to Herman D. and Marilyn K. (Buddenhagen) Johnston in Kansas City, Missouri.  As a young boy, he moved with his family to Parsons, where he attended First Christian Church, participated in Boy Scouts and wrestling, and loved family hunting and fishing trips.  He graduated from Parsons High School in 1990. After graduating, Brent attended Kansas State University and was a member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity and also attended Pittsburg State University.

On April 19, 1994, Brent and Julie Bell were united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma.  The couple moved to Manhattan, where Brent worked as a mechanic and later a service writer for Gray's Westloop Service.   Several years later, they moved back to Parsons and he worked as a substitute and para for local school districts.  Brent then worked at the ER registration desk at Labette Health.  Most recently, Brent worked in student support services at Labette Community College.  While working at LCC, he earned his Associate's degree.

Brent was active in the community, especially with the youth programs of Scouts and youth football.  He also served as a volunteer fire fighter and on the Katy Days committee.

He was an avid reader, enjoyed scuba diving, and gaming with friends. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his wife cooking, hiking and traveling.  Brent cherished his family and friends, who will remember him for his kind-hearted nature, sense of humor and gift of gab.

Brent is survived by his loving wife, Julie, of the home; and two brothers, Mark Johnston (Jodi) and Shawn Johnston (Kayla) of Parsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Paul and Pauline Johnston; and Orville and Viva Buddenhagen.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins.  The service will be live-streamed on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home website.
