C. G. "Perk" Reitemeier, Jr., 86, of Parsons, passed away at 7:51 p.m., Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Labette Health in Parsons.
He was born November 21, 1928 in Lafayette, Indiana to Clarence George Reitemeier, Sr. and Viola (Harless) Reitemeier. He grew up in Lafayette where he attended school and was a 1947 graduate of Jefferson High School. He then attended Purdue University for one year before transferring to Kansas State University where he played baseball and basketball. Perk was a member of the 1951 basketball team that finished second in the nation in the Division I NCAA basketball tournament. In earlier years, he played semi-pro baseball in Kansas, Colorado, Indiana and Minnesota and held a record of having 22 strike-outs in one game in the former Amateur Baseball League of America. In 2000, he was named to the KSU All Century Baseball Team. After attending KSU for two years, he entered the United States Army, serving in Japan, during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he returned to KSU where he finished his Bachelor's degree in Education and also earned his Master's degree in Education.
On March 22, 1952, he and Norene G. Buckles were married at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas. The couple would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary next month.
Perk began his teaching career in Victoria, Kansas where he taught Physical Education and coached baseball and basketball. They later moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he taught Physical Education and coached baseball at Washington High School for eight years before serving as elementary principal at two schools for two years in the same school district.
In 1967, the family moved to Parsons where he served as Parsons Jr. High principal for three years, U.S.D. 503 Assistant Superintendent for three years, and Superintendent of Schools for three years. While living and working in Parsons, he continued his education at Pittsburg State University where he earned an Education Specialist degree. Upon his resignation from the school district, he began working as a sales representative for School Specialty Supply. In 1976, the family moved to Carl Junction, Missouri. In 1993, Perk retired as Vice President of School Specialty Supply. In 2007, the couple returned to live in Parsons.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Perk was an avid KSU Wildcat fan and enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and following sports on TV. Perk was a family-man. He enjoyed following his grandchildren's activities and attending their sporting events.

His loving wife, Norene, of the home; five daughters, Janie Kleibert (John), Broken Arrow, OK, Lee Ann Hunter (Terry), Parsons, KS, Sarah Son, Parsons, KS, Amy Manners (Dan), Parsons, KS and Mandy Ozier (John), Paola, KS; one son, Zach Reitemeier (Stephanie), Parsons, KS; Seventeen Grandchildren, Emily Keith, Eli Hunter, Katie Brewer, Ben Hunter, Nathan Son, Adam Son, Karah Kellogg, Jacob Son, Kelsie Son, Luke Manners, Molly Manners, Sam Manners, Hannah Ozier, Avery Ozier, Allie Ozier, Meredith Reitemeier and Ike Reitemeier; Nineteen Great-Grandchildren, Cecilia Keith, Maddy Scogin, Oz Brewer, Cy Brewer, Leo Brewer, Brycen Overall, Levi Son, Blake Son, Abram Son, Cameron Son, Kyson Kellogg, Josiah Kellogg, Connor Son, Mickey Manners, Elle Manners, Annie Manners, Cole Manners, Cadence Manners, and Cooper Manners; Three Great-Great Grandchildren, Jennifer Hunter, Eli Hunter and Lee Scogin; and one sister, Barbara Gudeman, West Lafayette, IN.
He was preceded in death by one son, Joe Reitemeier, in 1993; and one brother, Charles Reitemeier.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 5, 2015 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home following the rosary.
