Calvin H. Morris

Calvin H. Morris, 76, of rural Cherryvale, passed away at 12:55 p.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at the Cherryvale Senior Living Center.

Calvin H. Morris was born on December 2, 1944, to R.B. and Fern Beatrice (Tyson) Morris in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He grew up and attended school in the Mustang, Oklahoma area.  After graduating from Mustang High School in 1963, Calvin entered the United States Air Force.  His service from 1963 to 1967, included time in Vietnam.

In 1968, Calvin began his career with the railroad, as a clerk with the M-K-T.  He  became a claims representative, a job he continued with the Union Pacific in 1988.  After over 30 years with the railroad, Calvin retired in 2000.

He attended Hazeldell Southern Baptist Church in rural Cherryvale.  For a number of years, he was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the food bank.

His greatest joy came from spending time with his family.  He also enjoyed fishing and golfing.

On October 14, 1967, Calvin and Margie Barrett were united in marriage at Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus, Kansas.  She survives of the home.

Two sons – Jeff Morris and his wife, Robin, of Aurora, Nebraska

Cliff Morris and his wife, Brenda, of Pittsburg, Kansas

Four grandchildren – Ella, Henry, Shawn and Owen

One sister – Pamela Gray of Edmond, Oklahoma

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.  Burial will take place at a later date at the Fort Scott National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
