Carl C. "Poppy" Warford, 85, of Erie, died at 10:35 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.

He was born July 15, 1933, in Salina, Oklahoma to Dozier and Emma (Backward) Warford.  He grew up and attended schools in Oklahoma.  On December 11, 1952, he joined the United States Navy.  He served on the USS Helena during the Korean War.  He received his honorable discharge on November 15, 1956.  Following his discharge, he lived in Pittsburg, Kansas.  Mr. Warford worked for many years at the Kansas army Ammunition Plant.  He also operated a tree cutting service with his brother for many years.

Poppy enjoyed working on cars, going for walks, riding his bicycle and spending time with his family.  He was a member of the George L. Hendricks Post #102 American Legion of Erie.

He and Patsy Chaney were married on September 27, 1952 in Girard.  She preceded him in death on April 23, 1996.

Survivors:

Four Sons - Carl "Skip" Warford and his wife Sheree of Jasper, MO, Terry Warford of Neodesha, KS, Roger Warford and his wife Peggy of    Parsons, and Danny Warford of Arma, KS

One Daughter - Tina Knight and her husband Joe of Erie, KS

Twenty grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren

Emmalee Mitchell, who he thought of as a granddaughter.

Three sisters – Ellen Moga  of Adair, OK, Marsha Gilpin and her husband Ray of Adair, OK, Mary Esterline and her husband Jim of Adair, OK

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, one sister, one son, one daughter-in-law, one grandson, and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Prairie Mission Retirement Village.  These may be left at or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, Kansas 67357.
