Carole "Kelly" A. Perry, 72, of Parsons, took her final breath and peacefully passed away after her courageous battle with lung cancer at 7:18 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2014 at Labette Health. On January 28, 1942, she was born Carole "Kelly" Ann Wheeler to Cloren Wilbur and Wilmina May (Iford) Wheeler in Hillsdale, Michigan. In 1960, she graduated from Hillsdale High School and attended Western Michigan University. In 1962, she moved to Kansas and married Charles Spellman. They divorced in 1992. In 1994, she married Harry Perry. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2013. Kelly worked as a cosmetologist, bookkeeper, real estate agent and was employed by the Greenbush Education Service Center. She retired in 2007 after having served 21 years as administrative assistant at the Kansas University Developmental Disabilities Center. She served as a Girl Scout leader and actively volunteered for the Labette County Democrats. She had enjoyed playing volleyball, tennis, bowling and playing bridge. Over the past several years, quilting had become her passion as she learned to quilt and became involved in the Parsons Quilt Guild. Survivors include two daughters and their families, Stacy Ozier (Paul), Caleb, Andrew and Maren and Jennifer Bennett (Jason) Seth and Hayden; her foster son, Wes Braman; one sister, Bonnie Reamer; and two brothers, Dick Simon and Roger Wheeler. Additional grandchildren include Crystal Edwards, Rodney Jakee, Britney Neil, Heidi Wood and Chelsea Williams; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Matt Spellman. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Private burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Center of Kansas.
