Carolyn Kay Forbes, 78, of Pittsburg, died at 8:40 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born September 5, 1939 in Kingman, Kansas to Phillip and Anna (Fredalake) Strong. She grew up and attended schools in Windhorst, Kansas, graduating from high school there in 1957. She attended St. Mary's of the Plains College in Dodge City and then completed her training as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Wichita. She then worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and later for Dr. David Lukens in Hutchinson, Kansas. In 1964, she moved to Pittsburg, Kansas and worked at the Sunset Manor for 12 years. She also worked as the school nurse for St. Mary's Catholic School. Carolyn later worked as a Registered Nurse for Dr. Rodney Odgers for 20 years, retiring in 2002.
Carolyn enjoyed traveling, reading, working crossword puzzles and most of all attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she helped with the funeral dinners and also participated in adoration at Christ the King Adoration Chapel.
She and Patrick Joseph "Pat" Forbes were married on February 11, 1961 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Windhorst, Kansas. He survives of the home.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Phillip Strong.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Monday at the church. The family will receive friends at the home of Lisa and George Paterni, 1506 York Road, Pittsburg. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. Carolyn's casket will be available for viewing at the church beginning at 12:00 noon, Monday.
Memorial donations are suggested to either Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund or to the St. Mary's-Colgan Endowment Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, Kansas 67357.
